## Objective

Explain the difference between a studied group comparison and an individual prediction. This is an illustrative teaching sequence, not a validated assessment or accredited activity.

## Scene 1: Predict

Ask: What kind of conclusion could the trial support?

1. Every child will have the same result.
2. The studied groups differed on average.
3. The intervention reverses myopia.

Hold feedback until the final scene. The preferred interpretation is option 2.

## Scene 2: Inspect

Show adjusted three-year eye growth on a common zero-to-0.8 mm scale:

| Lens group | Adjusted change |
| --- | --- |
| Single vision | 0.66 mm |
| Medium add | 0.58 mm |
| High add | 0.42 mm |

Use these published aggregate values. Do not invent participant data or intermediate trajectories.

## Scene 3: Interpret

Reported high-add minus single-vision contrast: -0.23 mm (95% CI, -0.30 to -0.17).

Use the published contrast rather than subtracting rounded displayed means. The trial enrolled 294 children aged 7-11 at two US centers. The results do not specify an individual child's outcome. Smaller positive growth is not shortening.

## Scene 4: Explain

Which explanation preserves the limit?

1. The eyes became shorter. Feedback: all displayed changes are positive.
2. Each child will get the exact average benefit. Feedback: a group contrast is not an individual prediction.
3. The studied groups differed on average; individual outcomes vary. Feedback: this preserves the level of inference.

Ask the learner to explain why the other answers overclaim, then revisit the opening prediction.

## Production notes

- Input: original paper and existing Pretectal exhibit.
- AI contribution: draft wording, interaction structure, and interface code.
- Source values and contrast checked during production on October 2, 2026.
- No independent clinical peer review, CE approval, or learner-effectiveness study claimed.
- Before external instructional use: complete subject review, presenter rehearsal, and checks against the applicable provider requirements.

## Adaptation

Replace the topic, question, source-linked data, and answer map together. Keep limits next to findings and retain a static alternative. Get the full workflow at https://pretectal.com/workflows/research-to-presentation.
